Tillamook school district #9

Preparing Students for Life

Special Education Childfind

There is an ongoing process to locate, identify, and evaluate all children residing within the school district boundaries who are suspected of being eligible for special education.

Activities include:

Each school has a Student Assistance Team (SAT) that meets on a regular basis to discuss children with academic or behavior needs.

District handbooks carry information about Special Education so that all parents are informed about services available.

The school district participates in the Multi-Modular Pre-school Exams sponsored by the Tillamook Regional Medical Center each year. This exam gives families the opportunity to have their children, 3-5 years of age, screened in the following areas: development, speech, hearing, vision, health, and nutrition.

Early Intervention

Children 0-5 years of age are served by the NWRESD Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education program. For more information you may contact them at (503) 842-8423.

Home Schooling Students

Students who are eligible for special education services whose parents elect to instruct then at home may be eligible for special education services. Parents are required to notify the Educational Service District each school year of their intention to home school for that school year. If the parent suspects that the student may be eligible for special education they may contact the school so that a special education evaluation may take place.

Private Schools

When a parent, teacher or other school staff has a concern regarding the academic or behavior performance of a student who attends private school they may contact the school district for a special education evaluation. The school district will assist the referral of students suspected of having a disability.
